This scarce type is believed to honor with its obverse portrait Tiberius's mother, Livia, the wife of Emperor Augustus.
Historical Notes:
Located on the northern bank of the Maeander river along the borders of Lydia, Phrygia and Caria, Tripolis was known by various names during its history. In addition to Tripolis, it was also called Neapolis, Apollonia and Antoninopolis. Its ancient ruins, including one of a 1500 year old church, still stand near the town of Yenicekent in Turkey.
