Historical Notes:

Tiberius was a close friend of Emperor Justin II, and in 574, when Justin's madness rendered him unable to govern, Empress Sophia turned to Tiberius to help her maintain hold over the empire.  Tiberius was raised to the position of Caesar, and when Justin died in 578, he was duly crowned emperor.  Unfortunately, he proved to be a great spendthrift, prefering to deal with problems by throwing gold at them.  When he died in 582, possibly from having been poisoned, his successor Maurice took the throne of a nearly bankrupt Empire.
